Luffing Lassies
Luffing Lassies is a women’s sailing organization that seeks to provide a safe and empowering space for women of all ages and backgrounds to come together and share their love of sailing. We offer classes to learn the basics of sailing and more advanced instruction for those looking to hone their skills.
Our mission is to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere where women can come together, build relationships, and gain the confidence to explore the world through sailing. We pride ourselves in fostering a supportive community and providing our members with the resources and knowledge to succeed.
About Our Club
The Luffing Lassies, founded in 1972 by Lilly Kaighin, is one of the oldest and most active sailing groups at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. We are also one of the largest, with eighty women sailors of all ages and backgrounds. The primary boat we sail is the Sunfish, but Lassies also sail Hobie Waves, 420s. The Luffing Lassies offers educational opportunities and an on-water experience for any woman wishing to improve her sailing skills. Every Thursday during the school year, we meet to race against each other or sister clubs in the Florida Women’s Sailing Association. But that is not all; we Lassies love to have fun on the water and off, with social events, work parties, and more. Find your new friends - new members are warmly welcomed.
